Braamfischerville, Soweto

A small township, Braamfischerville that is located in the South Western Township its citizens most importantly its learners, they have endured difficulties in pursuing their educational purposes which was caused by citizens who set on fire their learning facilities in response to government not providing pupils with advanced learning resources and a more suitable environment as they have been learning in mobile classrooms for the past eight years. Parents are said to have barred the school gate in order to demand that the Gauteng Education Department refurbish the premises. Steve Mabona, the department's spokesman, stated that the issue would be addressed.  "We'll send them correspondence outlining all of the steps we'll take until we have a tender." They'll get a letter to keep them informed. "Parents have threatened to interrupt teaching and learning for the entire week unless Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi addresses their concerns. This occurred in March 2013 till to date there became no change therefore citizens took action and burnt learning facilities referred to as "mobiles"

A shortage of resources in the classroom can be extremely stressful for both students and teachers. Not only are students and teachers in misery, but they are also unable to learn to their full capacity due to a lack of resources.

Limited information access: Without enough resources, teachers and students may be unable to access the materials, tools, or technologies required to facilitate learning. This might result in limited access to information and expertise, which can impair both students' and teachers' capacity to educate effectively. In response to lack of the above mentioned resources the mobile classes became a target which led to atrocities being committed and teachers becoming victims. This on a later stage caused delay in learning as pupils were unable to continue with their studies and did not have a comfortable environment to continue learning.

Braamfisherville citizens were now exposed to having lack of schools as children started being educated under the trees which led to academic failure as learners were unable to attend during a rainy and windy days. Teaching and learning were significantly impacted, and children's educational rights were restricted as a result of learning losses, which led to greater dropout rates. Burning schools and any institution that offers tuition is effectively burning education.

The diligent effort of teachers who improvised, compromised, and sought alternatives was fundamental in maintaining teaching and learning provision. The school fires had an enormous effect on the wider communities in the four case-study areas, particularly on those groups who used the schools' facilities. Disruption and a sense of loss were also noted in the larger community.  The support obtained by the schools through fund-raising, provision of resources, and backing of school governors demonstrated and reinforced links between schools and their surrounding communities. Although senior leaders and staff attempted to ensure continuity in teaching and learning while minimizing any impact, the schools had experienced some negative impact on teaching and learning and, as a result, on assessment outcomes. The schools had strategically prioritized minimizing any disruption for pupils who were in an assessment year (for example, year 5 and year 7) and yet they perceived a negative impact on assessment outcomes for these year groups, it is likely that The principal effects of the fire on teaching and learning were the loss of facilities and the use of temporary housing, as well as the loss of teaching and learning resources and finished school work.
